We’re not biased. We’re not. But. . . Halloween is the BEST holiday. That’s why we like to go big to get everyone in the holiday spirit! Meow Wolf Freek Week has lots of spooktacular events, workshops and parties to celebrate this special time of year. Dust off that face paint palate, grab some eyeballs, and let’s go! Kick off your Freek Week early with freeky events starting Thursday, October 17th!

Thursday, October 17th

12pm-5pm – Open Studio

6pm-10pm – Love, Light, and Awakening Sensual Pop Up Art Showcase

After a full afternoon of open studio time, Shontez “Taz” Morris presents her Love, Light and Awakening Sensual Pop Up Art Showcase. A friend of Meow Wolf, Taz will be exploring the practice of bondage-based costuming to spice up your regular Halloween outfits. She’s showcasing local Santa Fe fashion designer Ammunition Couture and photographer Peter Weiss for inspiration. The event is 21+.

Friday, October 18th

10am-12pm – T-Shirt Silk-Screen Printing Workshop

For an unconventional, dressed-down-costume idea, artist David-Alexander Hubbard Sloan is hosting a silk-screen printing workshop from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. T-shirts will be provided for sizes up to XL, and we’ve got Snaggy screens! We’ll also have a few other Halloween-themed screens for those looking to step up their Freek factor! The event is 18+ and tickets grant entry to House of Eternal Return

12pm-5pm – Open Studio

9pm-2am – Claude VonStroke

On Friday night, we’ve got Claude VonStroke coming in to give us both a sick party and a taste of what to expect for his performance at Dark Palace in November. The exhibit will be open until he stops spinnin’ – at 2 a.m. Start your weekend with a bang! The event is 21+.

 

Saturday, October 19th

10am-12pm – Trick-or-Treat Bag Silk-Screen Printing Workshop

If you missed the silk-screen printing workshop on Friday, don’t despair! David-Alexander Hubbard Sloan is coming back on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. -12 p.m. for another workshop. This time he’ll be demonstrating on trick-or-treat bags, AKA pillowcases, that will be provided. Unlike the T-shirt event, this one is open to all ages. Bring your kiddos to get a one-of-a-kind bag that they can use for years to come! 

3pm-5pm – The Art of the Doodle with Mikey Rae (Legit Concerns)

Starting at 3 p.m., Mikey Rae is hosting another round of his free workshop known as The Art of the Doodle. Stop by and make some new pals, learn a new skill, and be endlessly charmed by Mikey. All ages and experience levels are invited to get to doodlin’!

6:30pm-7:30pm – Sleight of Hand Magic Workshop with Chris Chickering

Have you ever wanted to learn some sleight-of-hand-magic, but didn’t know where to start? Chris Chickering has got you covered with his hour-long workshop that teaches the ins-and-outs of some close-up tricks. Levitation is also on the table! Or off the table? You decide. All ages are welcome. 

 

8pm-11pm – Temples: Presented by AMP Concerts & Meow Wolf

Temples, having just released their third studio album, Hot Motion, are gracing us with a groovy performance, with doors opening at 8 p.m. Their futuristic and multidimensional vibe is just what you need to throw yourself into Halloween high-gear! The event is 21+.

 

Sunday, October 20th

11am-1pm – Indigo Tie-Dye Workshop

Hailing from a rural village in Nigeria, instructor Gasali Adeyemo will be demonstrating her unique indigo tie-dying technique on the cotton or silk cloth of your choosing. Indigo is a dye used for many purposes — some even to cure or ward off illness — and comes from the indigo plant. Working in conjunction with International Folk Art Market, this event is open to all ages and experience levels.

Monday, October 21st

10am-12pm – Toddler Tales

Story hour, AKA Toddler Tales, is open to all ages!

 

Tuesday, October 22nd

CLOSED until 7pm for Black Lips with Blue Rose Rounders

The exhibit will be closed during the day, but performances by Black Lips and special guest Blue Rose Rounders are starting at 7 p.m.! Black Lips are celebrating two decades of jamming and are sure to rock faces completely off. The event is 21+.

Wednesday, October 23rd

12pm-5pm – Open Studio

7pm-11pm – Cherry Glazerr with Prism Bitch: Presented by AMP Concerts & Meow Wolf

Touring their third full-length album, Cherry Glazerr brings a grunge flair to noise pop. With special act Prism Bitch, this all ages show is going to put the POWER in girl power. The explosivity of the ingenuity that both acts are going to bring to the stage will definitely rock all the Tits Off

 

 

Thursday, October 24th

12pm-4pm – Open Studio

4:30pm-6:30pm – Mini Meow Wolf Multiverse Workshop

Ever wondered what kind of creative state of mind we needed to be in to make the ~magic happen~ at House of Eternal Return? Find out for yourself by making a mini diorama from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.! Get in the Halloween spirit by dressing up your mini Meow Wolf with spooky bells and whistles. Hosted by Bryan Ko with all ages welcome.

7pm-10pm – Couples’ Art Therapy Workshop

Couples (loosely-defined) are invited to participate in art therapy: Halloween costume edition. From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., partners will participate in costume experientials while also learning about their past, present, and future selves. You know what they say, those who make art together, stay together! Hosted by Bryan Ko, Art Therapy graduate from Southwestern College. This event is 21+.

7pm-11pm – Maribou State

Electro-pop duo, Maribou State, will take the stage for a groove sesh from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. Having completely sold out their UK-European tour earlier this year, we can’t wait to see what awaits us. Special guest Sea Moya rounds out the chill 21+ show.

 

Friday, October 25th

12pm-5pm – Open Studio

8pm-10pm – Adult Halloween Slime Time Workshop

9pm-2am – Mesa Halloween at Meow Wolf

Two words: Custom. Slime. Forget everything you thought you knew about regular slime and buckle into the Halloween edition! The adult workshop will take place from 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. with access to adult beverages at Float Cafe. Enjoy access to House of Eternal Return while you’re at it! The event is 21+.

Let’s get spooky and kooky with the Mesa Recordings crew all night in Ye Old Ghost Town! dj erin e Bacon, Feathericci and Brian Mayhall will be rattling your bones with house and techno in celebration of life, death and costumes. The event is 21+.

Saturday, October 26th 

10am-12pm – Halloween Rock Workshop

Come over and paint rocks with us from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.! This all-ages event brings new life to the pet rock era.

1pm-3pm – Halloween Neon Camouflage Workshop with Photoshoot

The Multiverse is a mysterious place filled with mysterious beings. Become one of those beings by painting your face neon from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.! But wait! If one blends into House of Eternal Return and doesn’t have a full-fledged photoshoot, does it even count? We say “no”! Learn some new photography skills and take your entire experience home with you. This event is open to all ages.

6pm-10pm – AudioBuddha’s Graveyard Grooves

Starting at 6 p.m., AudioBuddha will slay with a Graveyard Grooves DJ set in the Learning Center. There will also be some community murals to participate in! Come share your artistic ability and your funky dance moves until 10 p.m.. This event is 21+.

9pm-2am – Keys N Krates

The party rages on with Keys N Krates from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. The mind-melding electronic band offers fresh takes on classic beats. As festival alums, they know how to crank up the jams and turn your Saturday night into a Saturday Night Fever situation!

 

Sunday, October 27th

12pm-4pm – Make-O-Ween

We’ve got a family-friendly, fair-style event that’s got crafts, pumpkin painting, live music, popcorn; the whole shebang! There will also be some spooky characters in House of Eternal Return ready to give you a slight fright. All ages are welcome from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.!

4:30pm-8pm – Bollywood Halloween Flashmob Workshop

Picture this: Bollywood style Thriller choreography. Now add in a flashmob. Now add yourself! Learn the iconic routine of Thriller with DJ Prashant’s Bollywood flair and then perform it in House of Eternal Return! This is an all-ages event.

7pm-11pm – Bedtime Stories

Fabulous friends, ghouls, and ghosties, you’re invited to our spookiest Bedtime Stories ever!  This month we celebrate Halloween with ‘Phantasmagoria’. Dive into the mysterious vapors of other worlds and celebrate the darkness on this divinely devious evening. Who knows what tricky spirits will rise and grace us with their presence? Looks to die for, performances to live for, all you can be sure of is that you’re in for a treat! The event is 21+.

 

Monday, October 28th

10am-12pm – Toddler Tales

Story hour, AKA Toddler Tales, is open to all ages!

12pm-5pm – Open Studio

6pm-8pm – Cosplay Basics with Cafe Quartz

Our pals at Cafe Quartz are hosting a cosplay workshop for first-timers. Cosplay, or “costume play,” is turning yourself into someone you admire, usually a character of some sort. It’s not unlike putting together a Halloween costume, but the devil is in the details! This is an all-ages event.

Tuesday, October 29th

CLOSED

The exhibit will be closed, but we encourage everyone to join The Lensic theater and Carlos Medina at 4 p.m. on the Santa Fe Plaza for live music, face-painting, Sugar Skull decorating, and later, a screening of Corpse Bride. Get details here!

7pm-12am – Spafford

The exhibit space may be closed, but the concerts must go on! Jam band Spafford is coming by, and they will be playing from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. in their classic, intentionally-unintentional style. VIP ticket holders will even get to spend some quality time with them before the show! This event is 21+.

Wednesday, October 30th

12pm-5pm – Open Studio

7pm-10pm – Welcome to Night Vale 

We’re turning the spook factor up to 11. Welcome to Night Vale is a twice-monthly podcast that updates listeners on happenings of the strange town, Night Vale. With special guest Dreamboy, this all-ages event is sure to frighten!

Thursday, October 31st – Halloween!

10am-12pm – Toddler Costume Parade & Story Hour

Bring your tots for a story hour with a twist at this version of Toddler Tales! We’re going to be leading the kiddos on a wicked fun costume tour of House of Eternal Return. Come one, come all! This event is free.

12pm-3pm – Open Studio Mask-Making Workshop

Still not sure what you’re going to dress up as for the big night? Come to our mask-making workshop from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.! Guest artist Jenny Ollikainen of Mythic Times will share her expertise in this all-ages free event. 

5:30pm-9pm – Bollywood Halloween Flashmob Workshop

In case you missed the Thriller Bollywood flashmob mashup the first time, we’ve got a second round for you! Learn the Thriller choreography with DJ Prashant’s Bollywood flair and then perform it, flashmob style! This event is all ages.

6pm-9pm – Lucy Dacus

Lucy Dacus, with special guests Liza Anne and Sun June, will kick off our Halloween night of singing and dancing! The pop-rock artists will be pumping us up from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in this 21+ event.

10pm-2am – Justin Martin

And finally, DJ Justin Martin will be leading us into Halloween night with an incredibly high-energy set. This 21+ dance party won’t be quittin’ until we stop dancing! Oh, and did we mention exhibit performers? They’ll be there too to keep things funky!
