Your favorite Gravitas Recordings producers from across the country, all under one roof. Showcasing a diverse array of forward thinking electronic sounds from heavy hitting bass music to smooth downtempo.
Cresting the modern wave of electronic producers, Psymbionic creates aural experiences that explore the range of multi-tempo Bass Music within an influential and dynamic culture. With an ear for situational relevance, Psymbionic enjoys turning non-traditional sound design and infectious rhythms into dancefloor heat, while also maintaining his history in the downtempo, emotive side of the electronic sound.
John Burcham has been moving bodies and turning heads as Psymbionic for several years in all corners of the USA, playing with acts such as Bassnectar, STS9, Big Gigantic, ill.Gates, Excision, EOTO, and Tipper. His passion and innovation in the music world are showcased through album releases on Muti Music and MalLabel, as well as in his role as label manager for the popular Electronic imprint Gravitas Recordings.
In a live show context, Psymbionic confronts mixes that are limited to the scope of the build and release, avoiding an industry epidemic of drop-monotony that overpowers the flow of music. Burcham seeks to prove that there are more powerful influences in moving a crowd than simple tension, providing an interwoven dynamic that relies on the strength of his blend, rather than the sole force or familiarity of the apex.
Psymbionic’s theory of music is a journey that doesn’t visit the same place twice, building excitement for what’s next not because you can anticipate it, but because you’ve never been there before.
Known for breaking the boundaries of genre, Au5 merges heavy, technical bass music with entrancing melodic soundscapes. Running the gamut of emotion within a single song.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Au5 (Austin Collins) has been a lifelong musician. Trained in classical piano since age 4 and studying bass guitar and music production since age 13, Austin is a well-rounded composer and music technologist unbounded by genre.
“If you’re looking for trendy music, turn away. If you’re looking to embark on a journey, come with me.”
Robert Jacob Max is a multi-instrumentalist and electronic music producer based in Denver, Co. His extensively layered soundscapes and penchant for cinematic storytelling take listeners on a truly extraordinary adventure through unique rhythms and poignant melodies. Part composer, part comedian, Supersillyus commands an army of synths and sounds with the computer to enchant more than just the brain with his live electronic performances.
Believing that there must be more to computer music than just playing tracks behind a six foot folding table, Robert assembled the Supersillyus Lifeband, an immersive live band experience combining the energy and chaos of live instrumentation with the infinite technical possibilities of electronic interactivity. The band is an ever growing and evolving supergroup lineup, featuring the brilliant talents of Ed Mann (Frank Zappa), Carmen Esteves (Brooklyn Gypsies), and the psychedelic power trio lespecial.
Robert’s passion for his uniquely expressive and creative brand of instrumental storytelling is exemplified not just by his multiple support performances with visionary musicians Shpongle, Tipper, and Ott, but also by his musical contributions to renowned art institutions such as COSM and Meow Wolf; and by his production and performance collaborations with bass music masterminds Space Jesus, Yheti, and more.
Hailing from the city of Chicago, Edamame is the stage name of Denver-based music producer Ed Harris. Mainly inspired by the great outdoors and different cultures of the world, Ed’s productions are often full of organic elements and sounds that he has personally field-recorded while exploring the planet. By synthesizing instrumental hip hop with downtempo and further blending it with his deep love for world music, it’s safe to say Edamame has carved a musical style that is truly unique. In his own words he simply creates “songs that help you float”. Since starting in 2012, he has released 12 albums that have garnered tens of thousands of downloads, played his music live for fans coast to coast and internationally, had songs played on the radio in countries around the world, and even had United Airlines buy songs from him. He’s also a proud member of Emancipator’s Loci Records as well as Gravitas Recordings, home to the like-minded CloZee. It may be hard to believe that he used to be a nationally touring death metal vocalist.
Austin native Jesse Brede has been setting dance floors afire with his original take on multi-genre bass-music since 1998, but his industry savvy doesn’t stop there. The self-taught entrepreneur has tried his hand and succeeded at nearly every endeavor in the business. From founding his own record label and talent agency to the practical application of video and sound technologies, Brede has become a staple in the bass community.
Brede ventured into a new territory of music production in 2009, where he came to fully embody the definition of multi-genre bass music. Brede’s composition and DJ sets continuously defy the limits of any one particular category. An avid storyteller behind the decks, he has become notorious for affecting the emotions of listeners while teasing with expectation. Brede has shared the stage with a group of artists as diverse as his sound, such as Deadmau5, The Glitch Mob, Skrillex, Kaskade and Bonobo at highly-esteemed events. He has also established quite the reputation with appearances at Euphoria Camping and Music Festival, Great North Festival, Insomniac’s Nocturnal Festival and Art Outside.
Brede founded Gravitas Recordings in 2011, a record label and creative collective that serves as a platform for artists to showcase their work. The label’s mantra is “Doing Good with Good Music”, making it more than just a music platform, but also an outlet to fulfill philanthropic initiatives. In true Brede fashion, the brand refuses to be compromised by genre limitations and continues to raise money for various charitable causes through different compilations. Gravitas has worked with over 300 artists to release over 110 EP, albums, and compilations. The brand’s primary focus is to release quality music that is accessible to anyone with Gravitas’ signature “pay-what-you-want” business model.
Jesse is also the owner of Lion’s Share Digital, a full-service digital media and web development firm that has worked with a plethora of clients in the music industry and beyond. In January 2014, Brede founded Pivotal Agency, a booking and management agency, with Cole Jones where he manages Beats Antique, CloZee, and Cristina Soto.
In 2017, Jesse launched Gravitas Create which is a music production education platform and community.
A true master of his art, Brede makes his work appear as effortless as play. He finds fulfillment in assisting and serving others, and his integrity speaks for itself. Expansion seems to be the universal theme when contemplating Jesse’s fierce future vision, as he would like to see all facets of the creative world represented in his daily life.
