Objective: let’s get messy! We’ll be making slime today with household products. Also, we’re using science to make a new substance out of a group of ingredients! This slime is non-toxic, but please DO NOT EAT.

Age Range
Materials
- Gallon ziplock bag (our choice)
- Bowl and Spoon
- 3/4 cup white glue
- 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
- Up to 1/4 cup water (more for stretchier slime)
- 1½ TBSP of Contact Lens Solution that contains boric acid
- (Optional) – glitter glue
Instructions
- Select your bowl or gallon ziplock bag. We prefer the ziplock bag to easily contain the mess.
- Pour 3/4 cup white glue into the bowl (or bag).
- Add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and mix thoroughly.
- Add up to 1/4 cup water
- Slowly add in your contact lens solution while mixing to ensure you don’t add too much. We like to add a few teaspoons at a time and mix. (reminder: your contact lens solution should contain boric acid or your slime will not form).
- Knead and mix thoroughly before adding more as you do not want to add too much or your slime will get too hard. You may not need the full amount so take this step slowly. (If using a ziplock bag, zip tightly)

- Now mix until your slime forms and begins to harden. Knead, knead, knead. You may be surprised how much you need to knead to really make the slime form. If it’s not the desirable consistency keep kneading. If you find it to still be too sticky, add a little bit of lotion or baby oil to your hands.
Reflection - What could you do next?
- Research into the chemical reaction that is happening with your ingredients!
- Create two different colors of slime, twist them together to make a beautiful jump rope.
