What our local artists are up to in Houston

Curious where you can see more work from Meow Wolf Houston’s local artists? Here’s a list of where to find a few around the city!

So you’ve just left Meow Wolf Houston’s Radio Tave and you’re feeling transformed— reinvigorated even. You love Meow Wolf! You love art! And you want mooooore! You can’t stop thinking about the fantastic pieces, the colors, the characters, the worlds. This can’t be the last time you see them, right?

Well, for starters, you can head off to our credits page and peruse the projects to find your favorite artwork. You’ve found the art and the artist, so it’s time to form a new niche interest you can brag about online: supporting your local art community.

It’s important that each of our exhibits feel like the cities they’re in, so we work closely with local artists to add a little bit of their flavor to the Meow Wolf Universe. In Houston, we collaborated with more than 50 local artists to create Radio Tave!

Now that you have fully committed (scary, right?) to nurturing your intake of the arts, here’s a list of where you can find a few of our Radio Tave artists’ work around Houston! Hop in your car or put on your comfiest sneakers and get ready for the best sightseeing experience in the city:

Lead Artist of “The Royal Rumpus Room” - @royalshines

Royal Sumikat’s “Bringing Home With Us,” can be found off of Henderson Street by a delicious barbecue joint. If you’ve hit the Bayou, you’ve gone too far!

Royal works with spray paint, gouache, markers, and acrylic paints to create pieces with deep storytelling and mythological lore. Born in the Philippines, Royal is a muralist and painter, whose work is informed by their experience as a displaced migrant, community organizer, and priestess.

Lead Artist of CELL - @1nput0utput

Don’t walk to this one.

Input Output’s “Data Stream” is located inside Bush Intercontinental Airport and greets travelers as they head off to their next adventure— very similar to their installation in Radio Tave!

"‘Data Stream’ uses 66 LED strips to create a dynamic light experience resembling airwaves to guide travelers. Input Output specializes in bridging technology and art, prioritizing user engagement over tech gimmicks."

Lead Artist of Gateway to the Garden - @dual_streets

DUAL, an artist who does not share his identity publicly, explores the line tension between street art and fine art. His work can be found all around Houston, but this special mural is located just off of Main St.!

“DUAL leaves it up to the observer to assign a meaning to his work. By operating under a pseudonym, he lets his audience write their own narrative for who he is and the message he is trying to get across.”

Find the rest of DUAL's work here.

Lead Artist of One of Us: The Illumination of the Single Eternal Life - @tarboxx2

One of Houston’s favorite muralists, Scott Tarbox's work is literally all over the city– Stack Burger, Jerry’s Artarama, Sawyer Yards, probably your house, etc. etc.

"I don’t often paint or draw in realism, instead I use saturated colors, unnatural glows, and biological mash-ups to express real-world feelings, experience, and challenges– hopefully with the same air of optimism and calmness that I feel from nature. I fell in love with spray paint the moment that it was in my hands– the speed, the opacity, the thickness of the pigment. It’s unapologetic and applies with clear intention."
