Shelley the Shrimp advises on reality, late night dinner, and how playlists are definitely love letters.
It has been a full season. The water is getting warmer, the kelp is blooming, I am beginning to molt my shell to create a newer, more beautiful, more glossy shell in the spring, and we can all breathe a little easier with some allergy medication in this new bath-like warmth!
Let’s get into it.
Okay honestly, I used to do this way earlier on in my crustacean years but maybe I should bring it back…type in a country, a genre, and a decade. Like “Philippines Whale Song 1960s” or “Seychelles Dolphin Chatter 1990s” and see if you can’t find something to feel something! You discover a lot of real gems that way.
Playlists are also an exciting way to find new things out in the world and you can return the favor to your bestie. Send each other lil’ sweet notes or mutually felt cry sessions or heavy hits to scream to. A well-curated road trip playlist is a golden thing.
Sometimes you have to confront something by looking at it square in the face and saying “Not today baby!” and walk on by. Our eyes play tricks on us sometimes and I have eyes that see colors humans can’t conceptualize!
All of it, all at once, today’s tomorrow’s yesterday! The present is always happening. Time is a shrimp cocktail and we’re just swimming in the sauce.
But also, big chillin’, big krillin’ how about you?
It depends on the thing at swimmeret (the shrimp equivalent to a hand)! Sometimes it starts with long walks under the beach, sometimes it’s in the shower, sometimes it’s eating algae with friends late into the night. Think about what you want it to look like, how you want it to feel, what is its deal? Then you either use your expertise or you look at those who are doing what you want to do!
Stop me if you’ve heard this one but, sometimes you have to confront something by looking at it square in the face and saying “Not today baby!” and walk on by. You do have to trick yourself out of it! Change up your environment, phone a friend, go see a movie. But other times, you can try to talk to that feeling– see what is making you feel anxious and address it head on. It can be something in you that feels unheard and seeing what you might need to tend to can be very helpful in the long run! I am a crustacean, and a crustacean who is not a licensed professional in any way, but I’ve been known to swim in my thoughts a time or two.
Crabs are emotionally aware and very inward guys in my experience! And they also have a reputation for being big crybabies that I cannot confirm or deny at this time. But they are also devoted and protective of their loved ones, so it makes sense that they would be called upon to represent.
