From November 11th– 12th& 18th - 19th the event, curated and hosted by Big Medium, an Austin based non-profit for the contemporary arts, boasts a roster of 505 artists with events, releases and parties happening all over the city. The 2017 theme, “uses flowers as a way of emphasizing the importance of regionality and peace in response to our current tumultuous cultural climate.”
The group exhibit is where the whole experience begins. The building hosts 400 participating artists as well as maps and event catalogues to help you plan your route. The group exhibition is open weekends, 11am-6pm and Tuesday - Friday, 12-6pm with all art for sale. 100% of proceeds benefit the artists.
This event provides space and opportunities for the public to interact with and meet artists though the utilization of art studios, galleries, temporary exhibitions, libraries and schools all over Austin. East Austin Studio Tour showcases a wide variety of art venues from galleries to unconventional spaces. There's something for everyone.
For this year’s event, Meow Wolf supported the development of two installations by two very talented art collectives: The Future to be Determined (@FutureTBD) and Vision Gland (@visiongland). Both of their exhibits will be up and running during the second weekend. We can’t recommend the experience highly enough. East Austin Studio Tour is free to attend.
