The indie rock outfit of songwriter Katie Crutchfield, Waxahatchee is enjoying some very favorable reviews of Out in the Storm, the band’s newest release.
Her most autobiographical and honest album to date, Out in the Storm is a self-reflective anchor in the story of both her songwriting and her life. As Crutchfield prepared for the release of her Merge debut Ivy Tripp, she found herself depleted emotionally and professionally amidst the dissolution of a noxious relationship. “Ivy Tripp doesn’t really have any resolution. It’s a lot of beating around the bush, and superficially trying to see my life clearly, but just barely scratching the surface... It’s a very honest record about a time in which I was not honest with myself.”
Waxahatchee is supported by Cayetana and Snail Mail. Click here for more information about the show.
Avant-garde electronic music from LA will take the stage this month with the likes of Daedelus, Huxley Anne, Eraserface and Wylie Cable. It's been a minute since Santa Fe has seen Daedelus, his dapper suits and his top-notch live production so Meow Wolf is thrilled to bring him back to town. From the musicians:
Daedelus is an influential producer and cornerstone of the electronic & beat music scenes both locally and internationally. Having released his latest full length ‘Labyrinths’ on Magical Properties/Dome of Doom, as well as a Bakers Dozen vinyl only release via Fat Beats, Daedelus is returning from a recent run in Europe and taking some newer LA Beat Scene artists under his wing to perform a special night of music at Meow Wolf. Huxley Anne also recently released her highly touted debut ‘Ilium’ on Dome of Doom with support from Maryanne Hobbs on the BBC, XLR8R, NTS Radio, The Wire Magazine, The Untz, Seventh Hex and more.
Check out the event page for more information about the show.
The month continues with Nicola Cruz, who started his musical career as a drummer before making the jump to electronic production. From the artist:
Nicola Cruz is an electronic producer, musician and DJ. Born in France to proud South American descent, he currently lives and works in Quito, Ecuador, in the heart of the Andes mountains. Nicola started his career as a percussionist, thanks to which he developed an early interest in electronic music. His work draws from a broad variety of sources, in particular a deep passion for the Andean landscapes, their cultures, rituals and rhythms. Because of this, his music radiates an intimate understanding of nature, from the organic exuberance of his sound to the soft cadence of his songs. In this mix a delicate balance between forces always prevails: his music is deeply rhythmic without losing the melody, and even though it is formed in collaboration with artists from different times and spaces, it remains personal and intimate.
Cruz is supported by favorite Santa Fe DJs erin e and Spoolius. Click here for more information about the show.
Dance Monster returns, earning its reputation as Santa Fe’s best dance night with a performance from none other than Mark Farina. From the artist:
In 2016, DJ / Producer, Mark Farina earned his first No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums with Mushroom Jazz Eight in addition to touring/performing with Gramatik, Thievery Corporation, BPM, Sundance Film Festival, Winter Warmer, Gem and Jam, Lucidity, Corona Sunsets, Neon Desert, Oysterfest, Sonic Bloom, EDC Las Vegas, Pemberton, Electric Forest, Woogie Weekend, Untold Festival and Joshua Tree Music Festival.Voted as one of the top DJ’s in the world by URB, MUZIK and BPM magazines, Mark’s taste making skills continue to turn the heads of seasoned Dance Music veterans as well as newcomers to the scene.

Santa Fe's D Numbers (Brian Mayhall, Ben Wright and Paul Feathericci) are very close to us. Members of this Santa Fe musical institution both composed and installed much of the sound guests hear as they walk through House of Eternal Return. We're going out to support them as they play a gig at the Santa Fe Plaza. From the band:
D Numbers’ broad range of influences and long process of group development have led to a complex and unique hybrid of instrumental rock and electronica. The magic of a D Numbers’ live performances is in the realtime reorganization of analog sounds from live instruments into intricate webs of loops, samples and digital bliss. D Numbers creates multilayered compositions rich in texture and depth as the audience watches them bob and sway in sync; stomping on pedals and lunging for knobs and faders, all the while locked into a solid groove. Exploring a wide range of feelings and tonalities that range from melancholy ambience to aggressive rock to ecstatic funk, D Numbers takes their listeners on a sonic joyride.

Before the Mark Farina show at the exhibition, Meow Wolf will be on the Santa Fe Plaza celebrating the 2017 installment of Monster Battle.Monster Battle is a proud Meow Wolf tradition going all the way back to the collective’s founding in 2008. Guests are invited to dress up as their inner monster and (nonviolently) battle for freak supremacy in downtown Santa Fe. Meow Wolfer Christopher J Johnson, a Monster Battle veteran, wrote about this strange ritual on our blog.By the way: there will be prizes for best monster, so dress to aggress! The event will be chaperoned by Meow Wolf’s own Max P.F.F.P. He’ll set the stage for none other than DJ Snaggy, whose tech stylings are eerily reminiscent of DJ Dirt Girl. After the battle, please ascend to monster Valhalla by attending Dance Monster at Meow Wolf! That’s all for now.
